Opening the 2015 shelf
I picture a small stack of short stories from 2015 on a table, the kind that makes you want to read just one and then it turns into three. Science fiction and fantasy can feel big and far away, but short stories bring it close. One page you are in a quiet apartment with a strange device humming in the corner. Next page you are walking through a forest where the trees seem to remember names.
This year had a lot of sharp ideas, but also soft moments. Stories that ask what makes someone human, and stories that just let magic sit beside normal life like it belongs there. I like how the best ones don’t waste time. They start fast, then they leave you thinking when they end.
A small note at the end
So this is a place to gather the best science fiction and fantasy short stories of 2015, not as trophies, more like lights you can carry around for a while. Some will surprise you, some will sting a little, and some will feel warm in your hands.
Pow
I’m writing this like I’m turning pages right now, listening for that moment when a story clicks. I want picks that feel alive, not just famous.
